When it comes to beautiful Cabo San Lucas, there is so much more than meets the eye. This ideal vacation destination is brimming with unique adventures hiding just under the surface. So here is our official insider’s look at the ultimate Mexico adventures that many may dream of, but few know how to find.

Marine Day Trips and Excursions

We know, we know: lounging poolside, or on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean, never gets old. But it can be nice to break up a long vacation with some adventurous day trips and excursions. For the seafarers, there’s the Los Cabos Combo Tour, a six-hour ride in a glass-bottom boat. You’ll sail out to the Sea of Cortez for stunning views of El Arco, the sea lion’s rock formation, Playa del Amor, and Playa del Divorcio. Schools of tropical fish swimming past the bottom of the boat make for great picture opportunities. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to sample Mexican cuisine, taste various local tequilas, and try hands-on glassblowing, a local specialty.

Another popular day trip is the La Paz Whale Shark Snorkeling Tour and Lunch. What’s more adventurous than a full day of swimming with whale sharks and snorkeling? When you’re not marveling at these gentle giants, wave hello to rays, dolphins, and other marine wildlife. Once you’ve built an adequate appetite, it’ll be time for Mexican tacos over on the beachfront boardwalk. Roundtrip transportation from a hotel or resort to the launch point of the excursion is also offered. And remember: these excursions only take place between April and September!

Exhilarating Outdoor Activities on the Mainland

While Baja is certainly famous for its beaches and marine wildlife, there is plenty to see and do on the mainland. The popular Canyon Canopy Adventure is a great place to start. Thrill seekers flock here to see the beautiful, lush parts of the peninsula firsthand, and from above. Fly on zip lines through the upper or lower canopies, and take in the stunning beauty of Boca de Sierra National Park. Your experienced tour guides will strap you in and send you flying down a number of different zip line tracks, including the Crazy Ladder, Commando, and the Hanging Bridge. A must-see activity!

For yet another dose of adrenaline, we recommend the Margaritas Beach 4×4 ATV experience. Hop on your own ATV and speed after your tour guide, taking in the white sands of Margarita Beach, sand creeks, and canyons. Trips depart daily from G-Force Adventures Park, perfect for both resort guests and the cruise ship crowd looking for an exhilarating day trip.

Of course, you can always slow things down a bit with an iconic beach horseback riding tour. Good even for beginners, these tours bring you up close and personal with beautiful Mexican horses as they carry you across dry creeks, desert scenery, and along the beautiful shores of the Pacific Ocean. This excursion is great for smaller groups that want an intimate learning and viewing experience.

Kayaks, Jet Skis®, and More

Water sports are always popular options for small groups and families to consider. When it comes to kayaking, the Los Cabos Arch and Playa del Amor Tour by Glass-Bottom Kayak are a must. These above-and-beyond guided tours last nearly three hours on a glass-bottomed kayak. You’ll paddle around the El Arco to view stunning rock formations and observe the famous (and loud!) sea lion colony. Watch as various marine birds dip, dive, and soar. And if you brought your suit along, you’ll have the option of snorkeling at Pelican Rock, where many tropical fish can be found displaying their beautiful colors.

Of course, you can always rent a WaveRunner® if you’re feeling the need for speed. Go alone or have a loved one ride on back as you hop waves, circle round, and cruise the coast. Be safe!

One activity that definitely needs mentioning is the A Maze in Cabo Race. Talk about a thrill a minute, this is it. It’s fun for the entire family. Based on the Amazing Race tv show, you really feel like your doing it. Figuring out clues, racing to your next check point, doing some sort of activity at each checkpoint before getting your next clue. We were running through the streets of downtown Cabo, took a boat out to the arch, ate some interesting food. It was and still is the single most fun thing I’ve ever done on any vacation I’ve ever taken.

We are planning a trip to Welk Cabo over Thanksgiving. I am concerned for safety as I have heard of many concerns regarding the drug cartel now in Cabo San Lucas.
Can you please tell me what the safety plan is and what you suggest owners do off property? I have been to Cabo San Lucas before but not in several years & felt safe before. Recently we were in Puerto Vallarta (summer 2016) and I have been to Puerto Penasco a couple times in last several years. I am just curious as I have heard to not travel right now to Mexico from a viable source. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you.
