Do you want this year to be the year you stun dad with the perfect Father’s Day gift? We do too. That’s why we’ve searched far and wide, consulted fathers of all kind the whole country over, and come up with a stellar list of Father’s Day gift ideas. Okay, maybe we didn’t ask every father; but we’re pretty sure this list will help you knock it out of the park come June 18.

Extra Bacon, Please

Though dad won’t likely be up early on Sunday, you can rise with the sun and have a tasty breakfast ready to serve him in bed. Bacon, an omelette, some orange juice—his heart and stomach will thank you. Cooking isn’t your thing? Get you and papa a table at his favorite breakfast joint before you head out for the day’s activities. Oh, and we recommend you pick up the tab.

All My Friends Have a Low Rider

They say there’s a speed demon in all of us. If your dad perks up at the sound of a throaty exhaust, or can’t keep his eyes off the sports cars driving by, why not put him behind the wheel of his own for a day? There are a number of companies out there that will put you in a real supercar, on a real racetrack. Can’t find a venue? Try go-karting! Most cities have at least one go-karting facility. These indoor tracks can be exhilarating! And if you can’t find any go-karts, there’s always that fast Italian car down at the dealership dad’s always talking about…

Gone Fishin’

You’d be surprised how close your home is to a group fishing tour—all you need is lake, river, or stream! Or you can come to our neck of the woods, and stay at one of our five Welk Resorts locations. In Lake Tahoe, there are plenty of lake fishing options, while Cabo San Lucas offers exciting sport fishing on the open ocean. In San Diego, there are a number of fishing charters that go out on weekends for open-ocean fishing. The crew will supply you with bait and tackle, a fishing license, and help you while you’re out on the water. Most of these charters offer meals and drinks on-board, so you can make a full day out of it.

Do You Have the Time?

On the gift side of things, let’s put pops into a good, well-priced watch. Now, watches always seem to come up on lists of Father’s Day gift ideas; but we have a real winner that won’t break your bank: MVMT watches. They’re hip, well-built, and come in a variety of colors and styles.

Fortune Favors the Well-Read Man

While we don’t recommend taking dad to the library this Father’s Day (sorry, librarians!), we do think a nice edition of a favorite book can make a great gift. Does dad ever talk about a book he’s always wanted to read? Head to your bookstore and look for an upscale edition, maybe hardcover, or recently re-released. Try Hemingway’s On Fishing. Or Lord of the Rings. Better yet, go searching for a first edition of dad’s favorite novel. He’ll be blown away.

Southern California Staycation

With Welk Resorts San Diego and Welk Resorts Palm Springs within driving distance of Los Angeles and San Diego, why not plan a relaxing staycation for dad? There’s no better way to break a mundane routine than a weekend stay in a spacious villa. Welk Owners can also take advantage of special vacation packages for our San Diego, Cabo and Branson resorts…because dads love it when you save money!

Father’s Day: Surfer on beach

If you live near the San Diego or Palm Springs area, why not hit the links to work on that handicap? You and dad can spend a beautiful, sun splashed afternoon out on the golf course, hacking away and having a good time. Best of all, June has some of the best golf rates at Welk Resorts in Palm Springs and Welk Resorts San Diego, so you have a little extra to settle up with dad at the end of the round.

Hey, Batter, Batter

There’s nothing quite like an afternoon at the ballpark. Find the major league team closest to you, pick up two tickets to a day game, and head out to the park with dad. It’s fun, it’s relaxing, and it’s a great opportunity to spend quality time together. If there’s no major league team in your area, look for minor league or collegiate-level ball. No matter where you go, you’ll have an enjoyable memory with dad (and maybe some mustard stains, too).

And the Oscar Goes To…

Have you ever thought, “Now that would make a great movie.” Why not channel some of this cinematic creativity into a touching gift for dad? You can record different family members and friends telling jokes and stories, or just sending love and appreciation, then put them together in a video message to send to dad. The best part about this idea is the low overhead: all you need is your smartphone and one of the free video editing apps available for iOS and Android.

Father’s Day: Movie camera

Hopefully these tips have helped you find the perfect Father’s Day gift, or at least provided some inspiration. Father’s Day is about giving thanks and love to the paternal figures in our lives, so the main goal is to give from the heart and show dad you care. That’s what finding the right Father’s Day gift is all about.
