Guest Postcard— Welk Resorts San Diego with Shailyn and Bala

by: Welk Resorts | December 19, 2017

Shailyn and Bala are built for adventure, and this couple has officially fallen for Welk Resorts getaways over the years. Shailyn grew up visiting Welk properties, as both her parents and grandparents are Owners. She was hooked at a young age and has since continued to pay us visits with her guy, Bala. A few months ago, the travel enthusiasts visited us at Sirena del Mar by Welk Resorts where they enjoyed fun in the sun, Cabo-style. Next up, they wanted to see what San Diego was all about, so the two Los Angeles residents ventured south for a mini getaway at Welk Resorts San Diego.

Check out some of the top vacation moments Shailyn and Bala described at Welk Resorts San Diego:

“The INSPIRED For You Team is a great resource Welk has available at all of their resorts. This team hosts and carries out activities all day, every day. And there is something for everyone! Whether you’re looking for an activity to do as a couple, something relaxing, something adventurous, or activities for the kids, they take care of you! There were so many activities to choose from, it was hard to pick just one! We first went on a sunset electric bike tour, which was so cool! We had never ridden electric bikes before, and it was a blast, not to mention very convenient to have that push on the uphill climb. The trail was on the resort. It wasn’t too strenuous and was surrounded by beautiful scenery. Our tour guide’s name was Andy. He was a part of the INSPIRED For You Team, and he was great! He took us on some really cool roads and accommodated the entire group really well.

On the resort property there are multiple pools, fitness centers, and classes available to help maintain your physique while on vacation. The Fitness Center at Melody Hill has been completely remodeled since the last time I visited, and it is state of the art! Everything is brand new, including top-of-the-line equipment, a swimming pool, spa, and the newest addition: a climbing wall! Don’t let Bala’s smile in the photo fool you—this was so hard! But it was also a lot of fun. There are harnesses to keep you safe and staff to assist you along the way. Ethan, who is also apart of the INSPIRED By You Team, helped us get ready and made sure we had a good time.”

“Of course one of the best parts of any resort is the pool. But Welk Resorts goes above and beyond with their pools to make sure there is something for everyone. Our two favorite pools were the Boulder Springs pool and the Melody Hill pool. All the pools and rec centers have a hot tub. Some pools also have cabanas for rent that come with TVs and cushioned chaise lounges. We liked the Boulder Springs pool because it had a bar and restaurant that were very decently priced. They also had poolside activities put on by the INSPIRED For You team—plus a water slide! Bala and I might have been the only “adults” in line for it, but we didn’t care!”

“On site, there are a variety of restaurants to choose from. During our stay, we tried two of them. Our first night we enjoyed a very nice dinner at the Canyon Grill. It’s located right behind the lobby and is surrounded by a bunch of cute shops as well as the famous Welk Resort Theatre. We happened to have dinner on a Monday when there was a farmers’ market going on. We didn’t have time to stop and shop around there, but it’s definitely on our list for next time. The other restaurant we ate at was Pizza Hut. Its onsite location was very convenient and was perfect when you just want to grab a pizza, a six-pack of beer, and go chill by the pool for the evening—our kind of night.

One of the activities we participated in off-site was the La Jolla kayaking tour, about a 45-minute drive from the resort. If you’ve never visited La Jolla, it is beautiful and well worth the drive! We kayaked to caves and snorkeled. Included in our tour was all the gear we would need (kayak, oars, snorkel sets) and also wetsuits for rent if needed. Once you’re checked in, you gear up and head for the beach! The tour guides give you a brief breakdown of the tour, and next thing you know, you’re out on the open ocean. Our tour guides were super chill and made the 90-minute tour so fun! When the tide is low, you’re able to kayak inside the caves.”

“Our second off-site activity was a first for us: wine tasting! We had the pleasure of going to two different wineries: Monte De Oro and Fazelli Cellars in Temecula. They’re located about 30 minutes from the resort, but the drive through the pristine wine country is so beautiful, you get lost in the scenery and forget how long you’re driving. Our favorite vineyard was Monte De Oro Winery. Not only was it beautiful, but from the very second we walked through the door, we were treated like royalty. Our server was so nice and knowledgeable about the wines they offered. We loved walking around the vineyards, taking pictures by the water fountain, and of course, sampling all the wine! We highly recommend checking out this winery!”

We asked if the couple if they would recommend Welk Resorts San Diego to family and friends, and their response was an overwhelming “YES! There are so many different rooms to stay in, activities for everyone, and great customer service. From the lobby to the INSPIRED For You team, they are there to ensure your trip is great.”
