Welk Gives Back: Harmony Project
Welk Resorts is dedicated to giving back to our community and helping provide for the future. To do this, we’ve become involved with the Harmony Project. This charitable organization uses the power of music to engage kids ages 5-18 in underserved communities and retains them throughout their childhood so that they receive the support and guidance needed to graduate from high school and continue to college. Students participate in year-round after school music classes and weekend ensemble rehearsals with professional musician mentors – times when children are most likely to engage in risky or violent behavior.
The Power of Philanthropy
In a community with a 50% high school dropout rate, 93% of Harmony Project students graduate from high school and go on to college. Harmony Project also provides parent education, social support services, and links families to additional resources they may need through their on-staff Family Liaison. These are vital resources that can make all the difference for children and their families who are trying to change their circumstances.
Harmony Project’s mission includes the following:
GROWTH: to promote the healthy growth and development of children through the study, practice and perfomance of music.
COMMUNITY: To build healthier communities by investing in the positive development of children through music.
CONNECTION: To develop children as musical ambassadors of peace, hope, and understanding amongst people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and beliefs.
